Kyocera introduces its innovative cooling solution “Fan-cooled jacket” at A+A trade fair and conference

Kyocera will showcase fan-cooled jackets and its functions at the A+A trade fair and conference for occupational health and safety, taking place on November 04th – 07th in Duesseldorf, Germany.

Kyoto/London − At A+A, the world’s leading trade fair for safety, security, and health at work, Kyocera will highlight its cooling solution system by airflow technology. Developed in collaboration with BURTLE, the system is designed to enhance heat protection and strengthen workplace safety for employees across Europe.

Heat exposure in occupational environments

High temperatures on construction sites and in industrial settings pose a growing challenge to ensure the safety and efficiency of workers. While air conditioning provides relief indoors, countless outdoor workers face the challenge of the heat. Prolonged exposure increases the risk of dehydration, fatigue, and heat-related illnesses, such as heat stroke. Conventional methods such as cooling packs provide only limited relief and are impractical for continuous use. Kyocera addresses this issue by offering fan-cooled jackets with advanced cooling technology. These are designed to provide reliable, long-lasting protection against heat stress, thereby supporting safer and more productive workplaces.

Mechanism of a fan-cooled jacket

The fan unit draws in outside air and circulates it throughout the jacket. As the air is released through the neck area, it accelerates the evaporation of sweat. This evaporation helps dissipate body heat, keeping the wearer cool, refreshed, and comfortable. The workwear is also designed for compatibility with safety equipment, featuring lanyard access for harnesses, a detachable hood that fits over helmets, and a Hi-Vis model, which will meet DIN EN ISO 20471 Class 2 standards. This makes the garments an essential solution for protecting workers’ safety and comfort in hot environments. Unlike short-term methods such as ice packs, the system provides continuous, long-lasting cooling.

Development journey

Kyocera began developing fan-equipped apparel in 2015 to address the issue of heat in demanding work environments. Following the launch of its own product in 2016, the company partnered with the Japanese workwear manufacturer BURTLE in 2017 to introduce the ‘AIRCRAFT’ series, which achieved rapid market acceptance. Since then, BURTLE, introduced new models each year, resulting in a leading market share since 2023. With more than one million sets produced each year, the system has become a flagship product for Kyocera Industrial Tools and is recognized for its reliability and widespread use.
